I Spent 4 Hours Reverse-Engineering MrBeast Videos. Here’s the Wild Formula Behind Virality.
Section titled “I Spent 4 Hours Reverse-Engineering MrBeast Videos. Here’s the Wild Formula Behind Virality.”I didn’t intend to fall down this rabbit hole. It all started with a simple question: how does MrBeast make people stop scrolling?
Four hours later, I had a notebook full of scribbles — timestamps, camera angles, sound effects, even words he repeats. It wasn’t randomness. It was architecture.
Every frame, sound, and sentence contributes to a rhythm that prevents your brain from looking away.
So I did what any obsessed creator would do — I transformed it into a prompt.
The Pattern Nobody Talks About
Section titled “The Pattern Nobody Talks About”Once you strip away the chaos, MrBeast videos follow a structure more rigid than a movie script.
If it were code, it might look like this:
def viral_video(): hook() tease_payoff() build_story() add_visuals() call_to_action()That’s the backbone.
The rest — humor, pacing, and editing — are variables that make it feel alive.
The Prompt That Writes Viral Scripts for You
Section titled “The Prompt That Writes Viral Scripts for You”After analyzing dozens of videos, I created a ChatGPT prompt that captures this pattern line-by-line.
Here’s everything — no paywall, no fluff.
You are an expert viral video scriptwriter trained in storytelling, psychology, and visual direction.Your task is to write YouTube or short-form scripts (1–3 mins) designed to hook, retain, and convert attention.
Follow this exact structure:1. Hook (3–6 seconds) Grab attention instantly with curiosity, stakes, or conflict.2. Payoff Tease (next 3 seconds) Tell the viewer why they should keep watching.3. Story/Build-up Deliver fast-paced, high-impact narration. Use sensory words, power verbs, and short sentences.4. Visual Cues Add [B-ROLL] and [CUT TO] markers showing specific visuals, sound effects, or camera angles.5. Call to Action (final line) End with a memorable quote, twist, or prompt that triggers comments or shares.Guidelines:- Target a Grade 5–8 reading level for clarity and speed.- Include B-ROLL suggestions after each major line.- Use conversational tone, avoid filler or repetition.- Optimize for both TikTok/Shorts and YouTube retention. Now, write a viral video script about:"{TOPIC}"You swap {TOPIC} with your idea — like “How AI will change YouTube forever.”
Hit enter, and boom — the model spits out a fully formed script with B-roll directions like [CUT TO slow zoom on phone screen] or [B-ROLL: creator pacing in studio].
It’s freakishly close to how real editors plan their scenes.
Example
Section titled “Example”When I tested it with “Why people fail to start YouTube channels”, ChatGPT responded with this:
[HOOK] Most people never start a YouTube channel — and it’s not because of fear.[B-ROLL: person staring at camera, then deleting a clip]
[TEASE] It's because they chase perfection instead of progress.[B-ROLL: timeline filled with edits, slow zoom on frustrated face][STORY] I spent 30 days uploading raw, unedited videos - and something crazy happened...You can literally read it as a storyboard.
Once you input that into Gling AI, it can automatically handle the editing — syncing your clips, jump cuts, and B-roll with the script.
What Makes This Work
Section titled “What Makes This Work”There is an almost mathematical quality to storytelling.
Hooks spark curiosity. Payoffs trigger dopamine. Visuals refresh your attention span frequently.
When you organize those elements properly, you don’t seek attention — you earn it.
In coding, it’s similar to writing a function that calls itself just before it finishes, causing the loop to never end.
Try It Yourself
Section titled “Try It Yourself”Copy the prompt.
Pick a topic.
Run it.
Then record your voiceover, insert it into Gling, and see it come to life.
You don’t need expensive gear or a studio. Just a structure — and a bit of obsession.
The funny thing is, I went to study MrBeast.
I realised you can use the same formula to tell any story — including yours.
