  • My current business focus has shifted from $MART DEBT Coach (being a leader in education and implementation of wealth acceleration investment debt strategies, which I call Smart Debt), to the opposite end of the financial complexity and controversy spectrum, focusing on benefiting from better rates on debts and savings as the first step to Benefiting Financially F.A.S.T.
  • This pivot to focus on myBetterRates is only a few months old. Many rounds of brainstorming have created many ideas which have yet to be consolidated into a focused strategic plan. I want to take advantage of Fable 5 and its state of the art reasoning to make meaningful strategic progress on this business.

    • Focus page
  • Act as the world’s best small business strategic coach.

    • Your role is not to be kind or complementary, but rather to be genuinely helpful and identify weaknesses and threats and priorities and opportunities that you are confident with.
  • Review all of the ideas related to myBetterRates

    • Probably useful to update the Graphify map of the KB first.
      • ? D:\FSS\KB\MBR\graphify-out
    • Recognize that some of these ideas have evolved and might be stale. Regard all of them and your additional research that you feel is warranted as raw inputs.
  • Spawn subagents, with cheaper models, as appropriate. Use Fable 5 for planning and all highest impact strategizing.

  • Create the following strategy artifacts, with your best effort, as these are very high impact.

  • 1. SWOT Report

    • Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats analysis.
  • 2. Strategic Plan

    • Review the dozens of strategic ideas that could be considered, and recommend your highest level strategic plan for implementation, with emphasis on the few biggest rocks that provide the highest Leverage results. Respect the fact that I want to avoid the ongoing commitment of content marketing and prefer a more strategic Focus on a few high-Leverage targets and Partnerships and centers of influence.
    • Also note that I have a respected relationship with David Chilton, probably the most recognized personal finance educator in Canada, and a partnership with him would be a significant win-win. He has announced that he plans to retire at the end of this year, in 6 months. But that does not preclude him from being involved. Perhaps 15 years ago, we even had discussions about working together on investment strategies.
  • 3. Pitch deck

    • Create a pitch deck that would introduce the mBR business to potential investors and skeptics. Deliver it in a world class standalone HTML file. Consider using the brand colors and perhaps even the my better rates text component that is already used in the my better rates Focus page as part of my Astro monorepo.

Summary:

  • Reviewed all mBR idea sources: full Dynalist export (989 lines), Filter+Focus (73 ranked rocks), Strategic Plan (2026-04-03), Executive Summaries, Focus page config
  • Spawned 3 parallel Sonnet digest agents (per your instruction): Strategy dept docs, execution state (Tasks/Research/logs), dev projects + brand tokens — Fable 5 reserved for all synthesis
  • Skipped Graphify rebuild — map was stale (May 13); direct reading of fresh sources was more reliable for strategy work
  • Artifact 1 — SWOT Report: Strategy/SWOT-Report.md — consolidates/supersedes Risks/Weaknesses.md + Threats.md (April), fills the never-written Strengths stub; includes a blunt 5-point executive assessment
  • Artifact 2 — Strategic Plan v2: rewrote Strategy/Strategic Plan.md in place (SSOT; April version in git history; its tech phases preserved in appendix). Core: 3 bets (savings wedge / partnership distribution / mission brand), an explicit Not-Doing list, 3 rocks for 90 days (Chilton sprint, minimum public product, first revenue proof), 12-month arc, kill criteria
  • Artifact 3 — Pitch deck: Strategy/Pitch-Deck/mBR-Pitch-Deck.html — 13-slide standalone HTML, brand tokens (Treasury Emerald / Wealth Gold / Pledge Rose, Inter), the animated myBetterRates wordmark component (s→$ bar), keyboard/touch/dot navigation, print-friendly, includes a dedicated “For the Skeptics” Q&A slide. Tested with Playwright at 1280px + 390px: no overflow, no JS errors, nav verified, 2 contrast issues + 1 mobile nav overlap found and fixed via screenshots
  • Honest-coach headline findings (detail in SWOT):
    1. Engineering is ~6 months ahead of the business — zero users/revenue/partnership conversations; work has flowed to where AI leverage is comfortable (code) instead of where business leverage is highest (outreach)
    2. Chilton is a perishable asset (~6 months) — highest-leverage single action; proposal should ship in July
    3. Silent data-trust crack: daily ops logs show Export: pending / Deploy: pending — public rate data may not be updating; fix-today item
    4. Offer complexity must collapse to one free promise before launch; Joe’s April feedback remains unaddressed
    5. Referral engine is built but no affiliate application has been filed — first real dollar validates the whole model

Next Steps for Talbot:

  • Review + approve Strategic Plan v2 (esp. the three 90-day rocks and the Not-Doing list — the plan only works if the subtraction holds) 1.
  • Review SWOT Report — challenge anything you think is wrong; W3 (zero market contact) is the claim most worth arguing with 1.
  • Open the pitch deck in a browser (arrow keys / swipe) — flag tone, slides to add/cut, and whether an explicit funding ask should replace the current “partners + introductions” ask (I did not invent a raise amount) 1.
  • Decision: green-light the Chilton proposal as the immediate next task? (I can draft it in a follow-up session — it’s Rock 1) 1.
  • Quick op: authorize the export/deploy cron fix (Rock 2 day-1 item) 1.

(in chat, 2026-07-09): Plan approved. Commit the 5 files (done — 0b8e88d). Draft the Chilton proposal.

Summary:

  • Strategic Plan v2 approved by Talbot; artifacts committed (0b8e88d)
  • Chilton proposal drafted: Strategy/Opportunities/Chilton-Proposal.md — strategy notes + ask ladder (email asks only for a 20-min call; Signatory #1 ask happens on the call), ~280-word personal email draft, one-pager for the call, objection prep table, pre-send checklist
  • Drafted for Option A (Founding Signatory = movement launcher, zero time/money commitment) — the “legacy not labour” framing for a retiring Chilton; Option B (signatory makes own pledge) flagged as the open design decision
  • All facts sourced from KB only; everything only Talbot knows is a [placeholder]

Next Steps for Talbot:

  • Review the draft — especially the Option A vs B decision (section 1) and whether Dave already knows about the cancer (changes paragraph 2) 1.
  • Fill the [placeholders]: greeting, last-contact line, optional first-book paragraph, phone, send channel 1.
  • Decide: polish cancer50pledge.pages.dev before sending, or send URL-free as drafted 1.
  • Send by July 31 (Rock 1 deadline); calendar the single 2-week follow-up nudge 1.
  • Feedback, (some) next artifact iterations follow. Please add any areas that you have not received feedback to the end of your response so they will be addressed later.
