Dept inference / auto-routing in /task-start + /task-from-chat

Section titled “Dept inference / auto-routing in /task-start + /task-from-chat”

This is the next unchecked item on the KB-OS ROADMAP (M4). It was created by the close of KB-OS-ongoing-project-continuation (SMTM v5.9), where Talbot chose “Create next ROADMAP task” at the Continuation Gate. The log is Core/Processes/Projects/KB-OS/logs/2026-09-23_Ongoing-Project-Continuation.md.

Check first whether part of this is already done. /task-from-chat already applies the SMTM routing test and sets dept: (see its SKILL.md, “Owning dept”). The Smart Templater wizard (v5.4) also sets dept. So what remains may be only /task-start inferring the dept for a task it opens. Scope this to the real gap before building anything, and if nothing is left, tick the ROADMAP item with evidence.

  • Dept inference/auto-routing in /task-start + /task-from-chat (write to the correct folder, set dept:). This is the ROADMAP M4 item, carried over verbatim.

Inherited from KB-OS-ongoing-project-continuation

Section titled “Inherited from KB-OS-ongoing-project-continuation”

Project SSOT: Core/Processes/Projects/KB-OS/ROADMAP.md (## Now). The convention SSOT is SMTM_System.md → Continuing an Ongoing Project.

Now: /task-start D:\FSS\KB\Core\Processes\Projects\KB-OS\Tasks\KB-OS-dept-inference-routing.md

Then, in order:

  1. /project-continue Strategies-Library. This is still the first live use of the v5.9 ongoing branch. It should hand off to /task-continue on sdc-ip-mdw-strategy-foldin.

Blocked on you: nothing.

Done when: the parent is met (this close ran Step 7b and project-now --check still exits 0), /project-continue Strategies-Library lands on sdc-ip-mdw-strategy-foldin, and this task’s own ROADMAP item is ticked.
